Pick a sewing block and draft it to your measurements

Choose one of eight blocks, fill in the measurements it needs from your profile, set its style, ease and seam allowance, and draft a pattern that redraws as you change it.

Cosplayers who sewUpdated October 11, 2026

A block is a basic pattern drafted to your own measurements β€” the shape of you, with a little ease and the seam allowance you choose. You build costumes on top of it.

Before you start

  • Plus or Pro. On Free, Pattern Forge shows what it does and See Plus β†’.
  • The block's measurements in the Measuring Room β€” or the numbers, to type.

Choose and fill in a block

  1. Open Pattern Forge

In the Cosplay Realm's rail, choose Pattern Forge (under The Workshop).
  2. Pick the block

Under Which block?: Bodice, Body, Trouser, Bodysuit, Circle skirt, Cloak, Hood or Tabard. The description beside it says what each is for β€” a corset starts from Bodice, a breastplate over a long-sleeved top from Body, a full undersuit from Bodysuit.
  3. Choose the body

Under Measurement profile, pick yours, or No profile β€” enter everything by hand.
  4. Fill the gaps

Measurements for this block says … still needed or all set. Numbers from your profile say Β· from profile; a rough camera reading says it's worth a tape check. Type any that are missing.
  5. Keep what you typed

Press Save the … numbers you typed to … so your profile has them too.

Draft it

  1. Choose the style

Most blocks have a Style section: lengths, fullness, width, neckline, zip and so on.
  2. Set the ease

Ease: Close, Standard or Loose. Circle skirt, cloak and tabard have none β€” their room is their fullness or width.
  3. Set the seam allowance

Seam allowance (cm) starts at 1.0. Tick Dimensions on (paperless) to write the measurements onto the draft.
  4. Draft

Press Draft pattern. It works once every required measurement is in.

Check it worked

The pattern appears beside the form: … Γ— … at true scale, … seam allowance. From now on any change redraws it a moment after you stop typing (Redrawing…).

Why everything is required

A missing measurement wouldn't fail β€” it would draft a pattern that looks fine and fits nobody. So the button waits until every one not marked optional is in.

Next: print it.

If something's off

Draft pattern is greyed out
A measurement is still missing β€” the count says how many. Each has Measure it β€Ί.
I came back from the Measuring Room and my numbers are gone
Coming back reloads Pattern Forge: the block goes back to Bodice and unsaved typed numbers clear. Save them to your profile before you go.
β€œSwitched body β€” the numbers you typed for the last one weren't saved.”
Changing the profile drops what you typed. Switch back and type them again, then save.
β€œFilled from a close-but-different profile field β€” check it.”
Your profile had something near, not the exact measurement. Measure that one with a tape.
