Found a video that taught you something, or made one yourself? Submit it and, once our team has checked it, it joins Build Tutorials for everyone. A build-along goes further: you build live while others follow, and the recording becomes a tutorial afterwards.

Before you start

  • A Waypoint account. Submitting and hosting are free.
  • A YouTube or Vimeo link. Other sites aren't supported.

Submit a tutorial

  1. Open the form

On Build Tutorials, press Submit a tutorial (it's on My submissions too).
  2. Paste the link

Paste it into Video link and press Preview. The video's picture and title show under it, so you know it's the right one.
  3. Say what it is

Choose a Category and, if you like, a Skill level (optional).
  4. Tick what it teaches

What it teaches (optional) β€” EVA foam, Sewing, Wigs and the rest. Pieces on a build that take those skills list the tutorial, so this is how it reaches the people who need it.
  5. Add a title and a reason

Title (optional β€” we use the video's title otherwise) and Why it's useful (optional): what it shows, and who it's for.
  6. Send it

    Press Submit for review.

Check it worked

The page reads Thanks β€” your tutorial was submitted for review. You'll get a notification when an admin has looked at it.

Follow it through review

My submissions lists everything you've sent, each with its status: Draft, Waiting for review, Published or Not accepted.

  1. Read why

A video that wasn't accepted shows the reviewer's note after Why:.
  2. Fix it and send it back

Press Edit and send it back β€Ί, change what the note asks, and press Send back for review. It reads Thanks β€” your tutorial is back in the review queue.

Host a build-along

  1. Open the form

On Build Tutorials, press Host a build-along. It's an online session: free, with RSVPs, and on the calendar of everyone who joins.
  2. Name it and set the time

A Title (3 to 120 characters), When, and How long β€” 30 minutes up to 4 hours.
  3. Say what it teaches

Pick the skill under What it teaches.
  4. Set the seats

Seats is how many can RSVP, from 1 to 64.
  5. Say where to watch

Where to watch (link) β€” a Twitch or YouTube Live link. It shows on the Tutorials page and the session page.
  6. Describe it and schedule

Fill in What you'll build and press Schedule it.

Check it worked

The session's own page opens. Until it starts, the build-along shows under Live build-alongs at the top of Build Tutorials.

Turn the recording into a tutorial

  1. Submit the recording

After the session, submit its recording as above, like any other tutorial.
  2. Link it

On My submissions, find the session under Your build-alongs, pick the video in Choose its recording…, and press Link recording.

Check it worked

The session reads Recording: with the tutorial's title β€” (in review) until it's accepted. Unlink takes it off again.

Only your own submissions

Choose its recording… lists videos you submitted. If it says to submit the recording first, do that, then come back and link it.

If something's off

β€œThat link isn't supported β€” paste a YouTube or Vimeo URL.”
Only YouTube and Vimeo videos can be submitted. Copy the video's own page address, not a playlist or channel.
β€œCouldn't reach the video provider. Try again.”
The preview couldn't load. Check the link and press Preview again.
β€œPick a date and time.”
When needs both a date and a time.
I changed what it teaches when I sent it back, and nothing changed
When you send a video back, the boxes under What it teaches (optional) start empty and what you tick there isn't saved. The video keeps the skills it was first sent with; the reviewer can change them.
