Use your measurements: tools, a maker's sheet, and research

Measure what a Workshop tool asks for and go straight back to it, send a maker a PDF or CSV of your numbers, and choose whether to share camera corrections to improve it.

Every Workshop tool reads the body you last chose here. You can also hand your numbers to a maker, and help the camera get more accurate.

Before you start

  • Some measurements recorded (see part 1).

Measure for a tool, then go back

  1. Follow the tool's link

When Fit Forge, Piece Forge or Pattern Forge is missing a number, it offers Measure it β†’ or Measure it β€Ί.
  2. Measure it

The room opens on that measurement β€” the camera, or the tape walk β€” with a bar at the top: Measuring for Fit Forge.
  3. Go back

Press Back to … β†’ in that bar. It reopens the design or build piece you were working on.

Check it worked

The tool shows the new number in its body card. (The room doesn't send you back on its own; use the bar.)

Send them to a maker

  1. Pick the body and the unit

Select the body, and cm or in β€” the files use the unit showing.
  2. Download

Under Your measurements, beside Send to a maker:, press Download PDF sheet or Download CSV.

Check it worked

The PDF is one printable page: every recorded number, how it was taken, how far to trust it, and when. The CSV is the same as a spreadsheet, with millimetres beside each value. Both are made on your device; nothing is sent until you send it.

Help make the camera more accurate

  1. Turn it on

Under Help make the camera more accurate, press Share my corrections. It's for members 18 and over, and off until you turn it on.
  2. Correct as usual

Whenever you replace a camera reading with a tape or typed number, the pair is shared: which measurement, what the camera said, what you corrected it to, and how the shot was taken. Never a picture.

Check it worked

It reads Sharing is on. Corrections are only ever used as totals across at least ten people.

Stopping and deleting

Stop sharing stops new corrections β€” Nothing more will be shared. Delete what I've shared removes everything you sent.

If something's off

There's no Download PDF sheet
The export appears once the selected body has at least one number.
β€œCouldn't make the PDF. Please try again.”
Try again; or download the CSV, which has the same numbers.
β€œSharing corrections is for members 18 and over.”
Members under 18, or without a birthdate on file, can't share corrections.
Measure it opened the room, but not the measurement
Some measurements β€” height, the cross seams, head length and breadth β€” can only be typed. Find the row and press Enter by hand.
