Check a scaled model before you print it

Make sure the walls are still thick enough after scaling, see roughly how long it prints and how much filament it takes, and print a 10 mm test ring to try on first.

Scaling changes more than the size: a piece scaled down has thinner walls, and a piece scaled up prints for longer. Check both, then print a test ring before the whole thing.

Before you start

  • A model previewed scaled (see part 1).
  • For the print time and filament: Plus or Pro.

Check the walls

  1. Set your minimum

Under the preview, Minimum wall starts at 1.2 mm β€” three passes of a 0.4 mm nozzle. Set it to what your printer can lay down.
  2. Read the result

Walls: the thinnest is about … after scaling β€” above your … minimum. means you're fine.

Check it worked

If it reads Some walls are too thin to print well, thicken the model in your modelling tool, print with a finer nozzle, or check those areas in your slicer before printing.

See how long it prints

On Plus and Pro, choose a filament or resin under Material in the Live BOM. Under the preview, Printing it: about … depending on the printer, about … m of 1.75 mm filament. It's a rough figure from the BOM's infill and wall settings; your slicer gives the exact one. The BOM itself prices the scaled piece and says how much more it costs than unscaled.

Print a test ring

  1. Download it

Press Download a test ring. It saves the first 10 mm of the scaled model from its opening β€” the band that sits on you.
  2. Print and try it on

It prints in a fraction of the time. If it fits, the whole piece will.
  3. Adjust if it doesn't

Change the target or the clearance, press Preview scaled, and print another ring.

Download the piece

Download scaled STL saves it for your slicer; Download scaled 3MF saves the same mesh with its unit inside. Each download is listed under Recent fits β€” the settings to make the same fit again, not a copy of the file.

If something's off

The download buttons are greyed out
A setting changed since the last preview. Press Preview scaled again.
There's no print time
It needs Plus or Pro and a filament or resin chosen in the Live BOM; foam and Worbla have none.
β€œβ€¦ It couldn't be added to Recent fits.”
The file downloaded fine; only the record of the settings didn't save.
