Use the campaign battle map

Turn on the campaign's own battle map, paint terrain, place the party and tokens, drop areas of effect, hide what the party can't see yet and reveal it — and save it between sessions.

Game MastersUpdated October 11, 2026

Unlike the standalone Battle Map, the campaign's map is saved with the campaign, shows your players' characters with live HP, and keeps hidden areas off players' screens entirely.

Before you start

  • To be the GM or an admin: only they edit the map; players see it.
  • 1 AI credit, from your own balance, if you use ✨ Build from the story.

Set it up

  1. Turn the map on

In settings, under Play, turn on Battle map. It's off by default.
  2. Open it

At the table, switch the stage to Map. (Classic page: the Battle map section.) Click the map's name to rename it.
  3. Size the grid

Use the Cols and Rows steppers.
  4. Paint terrain

Choose Paint, pick a Terrain — Wall, Water, Difficult, Hazard, Cover, Door — and click cells. Click a painted cell again to clear it.
  5. Or build it from the story

Press ✨ Build from the story and the AI lays out a map from what's happened in the campaign (1 AI credit). Edit it like any other.

Put people on it

  1. Place the party

Press Place the party: a token for each linked character, showing their portrait and live HP.
  2. Add other tokens

Choose Add Token, pick its type (Character, NPC, Villain or Object), type a label and click a cell.
  3. Move tokens

Choose Move, click a token, then click the cell to move it to.
  4. Drop an area

Choose Area, pick a Shape (Circle, Cone or Line), set its Radius or Length and, for a cone or line, its direction, then click the origin. Click the same cell again to remove it.
  5. Save

Press Save map when Unsaved shows. Everyone at the table sees the saved map.

Hide what they can't see yet

  1. Draw hidden terrain

Pick the terrain under Paint first, then choose Draw Hidden and click cells. Hidden cells show hatched to you and aren't sent to players' screens at all. They save as you draw.
  2. Reveal as they explore

Choose Reveal and click a hidden cell to show it to the party, or press Reveal all.

Check it worked

The map stays as you left it next session. Players see the party, the tokens, areas and visible terrain — and nothing you've hidden.

An AI GM can use it too

On an AI-run campaign, the Game Master can move things on the map as it narrates.

If something's off

There's no Map on the stage
Turn on Battle map under Play in settings.
“Someone else moved something…”
Another admin changed the map while you were editing. Save yours and their changes come in.
“Enter a token label first.”
Type a label before clicking a cell with Add Token.
Players see “The GM hasn't set up the map yet.”
The map is empty or unsaved. Add something and press Save map.
