Get ready for your first LARP
Find a LARP near you and RSVP, join a faction, plan your character, pack your kit, and learn the safety calls before game-on — the LARP Realm end to end.
- ~20 min
- New to it

Each LARP tool has its own tutorial. This one strings them together for a first event — from finding a game to standing at the gate knowing the calls.
Before you start
- A Waypoint account, signed in.
- An evening for the prep, and the event's own rules once you've found it.
Find an event
In the LARP Realm's rail, choose Event Finder. Sessions opens filtered to LARP; press Near me so the map centres on you, widen the radius if it's quiet, and open a session to read when, where and what it is.RSVP
Press RSVP (or Request a seat if the host approves players). You'll see You're in ✓.Join a faction (optional)
If the game has factions, open Group & Faction Roster, find yours under Browse factions, and press Request to join. Its officers can then rally you to sessions (see Start, join and run a faction).Plan your character
In Character & Costume Planner, press + New character: a name and a concept are enough, then a costume plan you can build towards (see Plan a LARP character).Make or borrow the gear
Prop & Weapon Crafting has step-by-step guides for a boffer, foam armour and props (see Building LARP props & weapons). Many games lend weapons to newcomers — ask the host first.Pack
In Kit & Gear Checklist, add what you're bringing by category and tick it off as you pack (see Pack for a LARP). Water and a light aren't optional after dark.Learn the calls
Read Safety & Rules Reference — at least Hold, Man down and the OK check — then your event's own rules, which always win (see LARP safety calls & consent tools).
Check it worked
The LARP Realm's home page pulls it together: the next LARP near you, your character's badge, Pack the kit · … with your packing count, and the safety calls.
If something's off
- No LARP sessions near me
- Widen the radius, or set an alert so you hear when one is posted (see saved searches and alerts). Or host one at an outdoor space.
- I'm under 18 and can't see an event
- Events rated for adults, and games at someone's home, are hidden from members under 18.
