Online and in-person sessions

What the Online badge means, where Online sessions show up, how to join one, and what is different from a game at a venue or a home.

On this page

Most sessions are in person: they happen at a venue or at someone's home, and the page says where. An online session has no place at all. It is a time, a seat count and, usually, a meeting link that only the hosts and confirmed players see. A session can also be In person or online: it has a place like any in-person game, and a meeting link too.

How to tell which is which

  • On a session card, an online session carries an Online badge, and the card has no address and no distance, because there is nothing to measure.
  • An online session has no pin on the map, and it can't be at a venue or at a home address.
  • Everything else on the card works the same way: the seats left, the price (or Free), who is running it and how many friends are going.

Where Online sessions show up

The map and the nearby list on Sessions search by distance, so they only include sessions that have a place. Online sessions are listed on the same page under their own Online heading, soonest first, with how many there are, and the map has a button with that count that jumps to them. Format chooses Both, In person or Online. Online sessions also appear in these places:

  • The Live build-alongs list at the top of Build Tutorials in the Cosplay Realm.
  • The sessions you might like strip on Sessions, when it has a reason to suggest one.
  • Your calendar and your Upcoming list, once you have a seat, and anywhere you have saved it.
  • A link someone shares with you, or the session's game page.

When nothing is within your distance, Sessions shows the soonest sessions anywhere, and those can include an online one.

Joining one

It works as any other session. Open its page and choose RSVP; if it is full, Join waitlist. Maybe, reminders and Add to calendar are all there. The session page names no address. Once you have a confirmed seat, it shows Online: and the meeting link. Until then it says “Online. The link is shared with confirmed attendees.”, or, if the host hasn't added one yet, “Online. The host will share the link with confirmed attendees.” An in person or online session says Also online in the same way.

Hosting one

On the Organize a session form, Where it happens offers In person, Online and In person or online. An online session asks for no venue or address. For online and in person or online, add an Online meeting link (an https address); it is optional at first, and you can add or change it later in Host settings on the session page. Only you, your co-organizers and confirmed players see it.

In the Cosplay Realm, Host a build-along makes an online Cosplay session that is always free, takes 1 to 64 seats, and shows a Watch live link in its description. How to schedule one, and how to link the recording afterwards, is in Cosplay build tutorials.
