Richard Rider was an ordinary New York teenager until the dying Xandarian Rhomann Dey chose him to receive the powers of a Nova Corps Centurion. He began as a street-level hero and helped found the New Warriors before spending years in space. During the Annihilation war he became the last Centurion, carrying the entire Nova Force and the Worldmind, and he killed Annihilus. He later sacrificed himself to trap Thanos in the Cancerverse, eventually escaping and returning to serve alongside the new generation of Nova Corps members.
Powers and abilities
- Nova Force: channels a cosmic energy that powers all his other abilities
- Flight: flies at enormous speeds and can travel through space unaided
- Energy projection: fires concussive blasts of gravitational energy
- Superhuman physique: greatly enhanced strength, durability and stamina
- Worldmind link: the Xandarian computer intelligence advises him and grants access to vast data
- Wormhole travel: can open passages through hyperspace across long distances
- Nova helmet and uniform: provides sensors, communications and life support in space
