Sources and licence
Where the Comics Atlas gets its data, and the terms you can reuse it on.
The Comics Atlas licence
The Comics Atlas's data is published under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-SA 4.0). That covers the facts, the structure that ties them together, and the text our staff write, including text written with AI. You may copy and adapt it, commercially too, as long as you credit “Waypoint Realms Comics Atlas” with a link to the page you used, and share what you make from it under the same licence.
Some records also carry data from the sources below. Where they do, the page says so and links to the source and its licence, and that credit has to travel with the data too.
Where the data comes from
- Waypoint Realms staff. Much of the Atlas is entered by our staff from template files and the Atlas editor. It is ours, under the licence above.
- Metron, a community comics database, under CC BY-SA 4.0. We take facts only: names, issue numbers, dates, credits, story arcs and variant identifiers. Its credit reads “Comic data from Metron, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0”. We don't take Metron's descriptions or its cover images.
- Fandom wikis supplied a small number of older character and location entries, under CC BY-SA 3.0. We no longer collect from Fandom. Those entries are being replaced from other sources, and until then each one keeps its credit and a link to the wiki page.
- Wikidata is in the public domain (CC0), and we credit it as a courtesy where we use it. It is planned as the shared identity for publishers, creators and major characters.
Other sources are planned and will be listed here, with their credit wording, before any of their data appears.
Covers and other images
Cover art, logos and character art belong to their publishers. The Atlas shows an image only where the publisher has granted it to us, and we host it ourselves. Everywhere else it shows the title lettered on a colour instead. We never load images from other sites.
If you hold the rights to an image or text shown here and want it changed or removed, email dmca@waypointrealms.com. For any other question about the Atlas, email support@waypointrealms.com.
The licences of the software and fonts the site is built with are on the notices page.
