Namor is the son of a human sea captain and an Atlantean princess, which makes him the first mutant hybrid of both worlds and the proud monarch of Atlantis. Debuting in 1939, he first raged against the surface world before fighting the Axis with the Invaders in World War II. After decades lost as an amnesiac drifter, the Human Torch restored his memory and he became a volatile presence in modern Marvel stories. He has alternated between hero and conqueror, joining the Defenders, Avengers, X-Men and Illuminati while fiercely defending his ocean kingdom.
Powers and abilities
- Superhuman strength: one of the strongest beings on Earth, especially when wet
- Amphibious physiology: breathes both water and air and survives the ocean's crushing depths
- Flight: small wings on his ankles let him fly through the air
- Water-dependent vigor: his strength and healing increase with contact with water and fade when he is dry too long
- Marine telepathy: communicates with and commands sea creatures
- Longevity: ages very slowly thanks to his hybrid heritage
- Warrior and ruler: a skilled fighter and battle-tested tactician who commands Atlantean armies
