Alex Summers is the younger brother of Cyclops, separated from him after a plane crash that also cost them their parents, who survived abroad. His mutant ability to absorb cosmic energy and release it as plasma made him a frequent ally and member of the X-Men, though he often clashed with his brother. He went on to lead X-Factor, spent time in space with the Starjammers, ruled a twisted alternate world as Mutant X, and later commanded the Avengers Unity Squad uniting humans and mutants.
