Adam Warlock began as Him, an artificial perfect being grown in a cocoon by a group of scientists called the Enclave. Rejecting his makers, he was taken in by the High Evolutionary, named Warlock, and sent to defend Counter-Earth, where he acquired the Soul Gem. His greatest foe is the Magus, a corrupted future version of himself who leads the Universal Church of Truth. Warlock later wielded the Infinity Gauntlet, led the Infinity Watch, and joined the Guardians of the Galaxy, repeatedly dying and being reborn while guarding the cosmos.
Powers and abilities
- Superhuman physique: strength, speed, stamina and durability far beyond human limits
- Energy manipulation: can absorb and fire cosmic energy and manipulate matter
- Regenerative cocoon: can heal or be reborn by entering a protective cocoon
- Soul Gem: wields the Infinity Stone that can capture and manipulate souls
- Quantum magic: uses a blend of science and sorcery to alter reality
- Cosmic awareness: perceives threats and events across the universe
- Flight: travels through space unaided
- Immortality: repeatedly survives or returns from death
