Sound & haptics

Turn sounds on or off, set the volume, choose which kinds you hear, mute one device, and control vibration in the phone apps — saved to your account.

On this page

Waypoint Realms plays short tabletop sounds as things happen: a message landing, dice settling, stepping into a Realm. Set them under Profile → Sound & haptics, or in the phone apps under You → Sound & haptics. Your choices are saved to your account, so the website, the desktop app and the phone apps all follow them. (The exception is Mute on this device, below.)

On the apps

What you hear

  • Sounds turns everything on or off. Volume sets how loud; Test plays a sound at that level.
  • Alerts — something new while you're here: a message in the room you're reading, a mention, a reaction to your message, someone joining voice, a notification. On to start with.
  • Moments — dice landing and the sting as you step into a Realm. Each Realm has its own. On to start with.
  • Interface — short cues when you send a message, when something saves and when something goes wrong. Off to start with, because they come often.

Play example beside each kind plays one, so you can hear it before you turn it on.

Just this device

Mute on this device silences sounds on the browser or app you're using and leaves your other devices as they are — the work laptop can stay quiet while your phone still plays. In the desktop app, Mute sounds in the tray menu does the same, and the page notes “Muted from the desktop app's tray menu”.

When sounds stay quiet anyway

  • During your quiet hours, on every device. They are the same ones you set on the notification settings page, and Sound & haptics shows them under the switches.
  • While a call, a watch party, an audio comic or a video with sound is playing.
  • When the tab or the app is in the background, or the desktop window is hidden or minimised.
  • When your phone is on silent.

Reduce motion doesn't silence anything: a Realm's sting still plays when the colour flood is switched off.

Vibration

In the phone apps, some sounds come with a tap or a thud — dice landing, a mention. Vibration on your phone turns that on or off on its own, so you can keep it with sound off, and it still works when the phone is on silent.

Message sounds you turned off before

Messages used to have its own sound settings on each device. They moved here. If you had turned some message sounds off, they stay off on that device, and Sound & haptics shows a Reset to turn them back on.
