Sanctuary

A sanctuary is a marked off-game space at a larp event where you can step out of the fiction, rest and get support at any time.

In a sanctuary the game does not exist: you are yourself, and nobody expects you to play your character or explain why you are there. It is usually a marked tent or room, and welfare staff or volunteers are often nearby. Tiredness, a hard scene, or wanting quiet are all good reasons to use it, and you go back to play when you are ready. Some games use the word for an in-game safe place instead, so check your game's safety brief or player handbook to find out where its off-game area is and what support is there.
