One-shot

A one-shot is a self-contained larp that is played once, with a full story from start to finish and no continuing campaign.

A one-shot gives players everything they need, characters, setting and story, for a single game. It might last an evening or a whole weekend, but there is no next event, so the story reaches an ending before everyone goes home. That makes one-shots a popular way to try larp without committing to a series. One-shots often have a tight premise and a small cast, which is why many chamber larps are one-shots: a ship's crew deciding their fate, or a family gathering full of secrets. Because nothing has to carry over, organisers can try unusual themes and rules.
