Latex (weapons)

Latex weapons are foam larp weapons sealed with a coat of latex and painted to look real, while staying soft enough to strike with safely.

A latex weapon has a light, flexible core covered in shaped foam, sealed with layers of latex and then painted and finished. It looks much more like a real weapon than a simple foam one but still gives on contact. The term is used mostly in the UK and Europe, and most players buy them from specialist makers rather than build them. Check your weapon before each use for splits, tears, flaking or a core you can feel, and expect it to be inspected under your game's own rules before it is allowed in play. Latex can cause allergic reactions, so tell organisers if you have a latex allergy. If you make or repair one, work in good ventilation, wear gloves and eye protection, and follow the product's own instructions.
