Boffer

A boffer is a padded foam weapon made for larp combat, built so players can strike each other without causing injury.

A boffer usually has a light, flexible core covered in foam padding and finished with tape or a fabric cover. The word is most common in North America; in the UK and much of Europe players more often talk about latex or foam weapons, which are a more detailed, sculpted kind of padded weapon. What a boffer must be made from, and how it must be built, is set by each game. Every event checks weapons before they are used, so treat your game's own weapon rules and safety brief as the authority on what passes.
