Peace-bonding (prop check)

Peace-bonding is a convention safety check where event staff inspect and tag costume props so other attendees and venue security can see they have been approved.

When you arrive at a convention with a prop weapon or replica, peace-bonding is the process of having a staff member or designated volunteer look it over and confirm it meets the event's guidelines. If it passes, they attach a visible marker — often a brightly coloured zip tie, ribbon, or sticker — to show that the prop has been reviewed. Keeping that tag in place for the whole event is usually required, so handle your prop carefully to avoid losing it. Every convention sets its own rules about what materials, sizes, and types of props are allowed, so check the specific event's prop policy before you finish building or packing anything. A prop that passes at one con may not be permitted at another. If you are unsure whether your piece will clear the check, contact the event's cosplay or prop team ahead of time — most are happy to answer questions in advance.
