Sakura-Con: costume, prop and weapon rules

Last checked against the con's own rules on 2026-10-21.

A Cosplay Atlas entry summarising Sakura-Con's official costume, prop, and weapon rules for cosplayers preparing their convention look.

Sakura-Con requires that all weapons, weapon replicas, and items that could be used as a weapon be inspected and peacebonded at the designated peacebonding table before you enter convention space. You will need a government-issued photo ID to have a prop peacebonded, and if you are under 18 a guardian or accompanying adult must be present. Any weapons you buy in the Exhibit Hall need to be peacebonded immediately after purchase. Firearms of any kind are prohibited at the convention, as are all functional projectile weapons including airsoft, Nerf, pellet, and BB guns. Permanently disabled cap guns and water guns are allowed. Metal blade props with an edge one quarter of an inch wide or narrower, or with a sharply pointed tip, must stay sheathed at all times, and peacebonding staff must be able to zip-tie the prop securely into its sheath. Ribbons, cloth, or tape wrapped around a blade do not count as a sheath. Bows must be fully unstrung, prop pistols must stay holstered, and prop rifles must be slung. Staff must be able to tell a prop is fake from ten feet away. Paddles, blackjacks, throwing stars, metal knuckles, and switchblades are also banned. Glass items and props that emit smoke, vapour, fire, or sparks are not permitted. For costumes, nudity is not allowed and your attire must be at least the equivalent of a non-thong swimsuit. Appropriate footwear is required at all times. Organizers may ask you to change any costume they consider unacceptable. The policy page does not address makeup, body paint, or masks beyond these general guidelines. Because prop and costume rules can be updated between events, always check the official Sakura-Con policy page at sakuracon.org before attending. The con's own page is the authority on these rules, and what applied last year may not apply this year.
