Text message program

The service is entirely optional

Text messages are off by default. You can use every part of Waypoint Realms — creating an account, finding and joining games, messaging other members — without ever giving us a phone number. Consent to receive texts is never a condition of creating an account, of joining a game, or of any purchase.

How you opt in

Opting in is a deliberate, multi-step action taken by a signed-in member from their own notification settings at Profile → Notifications. There is no way to be enrolled by anyone else, and we never add a number collected for another purpose.

• You enter your mobile number yourself and press Send code.
• We text a six-digit verification code to that number. You enter the code to prove the phone is yours. Until this succeeds, nothing is stored and no further messages are ever sent.
• You then switch on the individual alerts you want by text. Every switch starts off. Turning one on is what constitutes your consent for that alert type.

The consent language below is displayed on that screen, directly beneath the switches, at the moment of opt-in.

What we send, and how often

The service is strictly transactional. We send only these three alerts, and only about games you have personally signed up for:

• Reminder — a game you joined is starting soon, at the lead time you chose.
• Off the waitlist — a seat opened up in a game you were waiting for, and it is now yours.
• Session cancelled — a game you were attending has been called off by its organiser.

Message frequency varies, and averages a few messages per month. It depends entirely on how many games you join. We do not send marketing, promotional, or advertising messages by text, and we do not send recurring scheduled campaigns.

Message and data rates may apply. Your mobile carrier’s standard rates apply to messages you receive from us; we do not charge you anything for the service.

How to stop messages

Reply STOP to any message from us to cancel. You will receive a single confirmation that you have been unsubscribed, and no further messages after that. You can also switch individual alerts off, or remove your number entirely, from Profile → Notifications at any time.

To resume messages after stopping, reply START, or re-verify your number in your notification settings.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery depends on your carrier and is not guaranteed.

What we do with your number

Your mobile number is used for one purpose: sending you the alerts you switched on. It is stored only after you have verified it, it is never shown on your public profile, and it is never visible to other members.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We share your number only with the messaging provider that delivers the texts on our behalf, and only to deliver them. Removing your number from your notification settings deletes it from our records.
