Review, publish, and what happens after

Follow a chapter through automatic screening and human review, publish the title and the chapter, preview it as a reader, and see how many people read it.

On this page

Every chapter is screened before it can go live, and many are seen by a person too. Approval clears the way; publishing is still your press.

Before you start

  • A processed chapter (see part 1).
  • Credits that total 100% (see part 2).
  • An activated publishing account.
  • Nothing else for a free title. Selling is being tested with accounts we've named (see part 2).

Through review

While a chapter processes, Checking content screens every page. A clean chapter returns to Draft, ready to publish. One the check can't clear — or, while the catalog is young, every chapter — shows Held for review until a moderator looks; after that, a publisher's first chapters, anything flagged, and a sample of Teen+ and Mature work. You get A chapter needs review when it's cleared or paused.

Publish

  1. Publish the title

On the title's page, press Publish at the top.
  2. Publish the chapter

Press the chapter's own Publish — or let its schedule do it.

Check it worked

The title is Live on your console shelf and in the Bindery, and readers who pull it get New chapter out. Unpublish takes the title down again, and anyone who bought a chapter keeps it.

Preview as a reader

On a chapter with pages, Preview as a reader opens it in the reader with a banner — live or not. Only you and your collaborators can open it there, and nothing you do counts as a read.

See who's reading

Once something is published, Readers on the title's page shows the last 30 days: readers of your busiest chapter, reading units, chapters finished, and readers per day — counts only, never who. A chapter's Where readers stop shows how many reached each page, once five people have read it.

If something's off

“Your publishing account isn't active yet…”
Staff activate accounts before their first release; you'll hear when it's done.
“This chapter is waiting on a moderator…”
Wait for the review. Approval doesn't publish it — press Publish then.
“Your revenue shares don't add up to 100%…”
Fix the credits on the title's page and save them.
“The Comics Publisher Agreement has been updated…”
Accept the new version on your console home, then publish again.
“Priced titles need a payout account set up first…”
This title or chapter has a price and your payout account isn't ready. Finish Get paid, or set it back to Free to read under Pricing on the title's page.
Readers can see a price but can't open the chapter
Selling is being tested with accounts we've named, so everyone else has no way to pay. Set it back to Free to read under Pricing on the title's page.
